One does not simply host One Tolkien Trail Race Event each year...

The Tolkien Trail Race is back by VERY popular demand with the 2nd running of the Winter version on 30th December! We heard there's a few greedy hobbitses in need of more gold medals, more awesome adventures... and we're here to give it to you!

Route Description

Go 'There & Back Again' with the The Winter Tolkien Trail Race and race around the course in the opposite direction to the Summer race!

Starting on the Avenue of the stunning Stonyhurst College, where Tolkien himself spent time and wrote parts of the Lord of the Rings (and even taught a few lectures). You'll begin the race racing from the grounds of Stonyhurst, through the village of Hurst Green before descending down the field lovingly known as "Mount Doom" where you meet the Tolkienesque woodland. Seeing the breathtaking aqueduct (built in 1880), you'll run counter clockwise along the Hobbiton-like Ribble River, gaining views only available to the Winter version of the race.

You'll race down towards the Cromwell Bridge (built in 1562) leading you to the trail where you'll reach the ancient woodlands. If 'Mount Doom' is the challenge in the Summer version, then the steps out of 'Fangorn Forest' will be equally challenging, but no less rewarding!

Racing back towards Stonyhurst College, .you'll finish with the iconic building in the background, for a super photo finish and completing the eleventy one (11.1km) course.

Event Terms:

I agree that by entering the Winter Tolkien Trail Race, I accept that the organisers will not be liable for any loss, damage, action, claim, cost or expense which may arise as a result of my participation in or attendance at the Winter Tolkien Trail Race. I declare that I will not attend unless I am in good health on the day of the race and I accept that I participate at my own risk. In the unlikely event of abandonment or cancellation, all or part of my entry fee may be retained for the management and administration of the race. By entering this race you agree to be included in photographs and any race promotional material. I agree to the below deferrals, cancelations and transfer policy and acknowledge it must be adhered to by Pennine Trails strictly to ensure the race can go ahead.

Deferrals, Cancelations and Transfer Policy:

We know it's not always easy to make it to race day in one piece, or sometimes other events get in the way. We do not operate a blanket no refunds policy and we aim to be as generous with our cut offs as possible, which is why we have the below policy. We must enforce the below strictly to ensure the future of the events go ahead.

The money generated from each event goes towards paying for the venues, the insurance, the free merchandise, first aid support and general event costs and once a certain date passes, the costs have already gone into putting the events on. Any deferrals or cancellations at this stage will be unable to absorbed by the race as the monies have been spent on the event and the event will be unsustainable to hold. Please work with us on the below schedules for your entries to ensure that the races are sustainable for the long term and available for you to race at for years to come.

If you inform us of circumstances that change within 3 months or more a full refund can be issued minus a 20% admin charge and booking fee. You may also defer your entry (see below) or transfer to another runner (see below).

If you inform us of circumstances that change within 3 months or less we can defer your entry to the same event the following year, or an event in line with the same pricing structure if entry is available. You may also transfer your entry to another runner (see below).

If you inform us of circumstances that change within 1 month of an event, it is possible to transfer your entry over to another runner, and you will need to provide their name, D.O.B, email and club. The participant that takes the entry agrees to our T&Cs. The two runners transferring their entries will arrange payment and Pennine Trails holds no accountability for monies lost.

No transfers or deferrals can be made from 21st December to allow Pennine Trails to enjoy the Christmas period.

*Pre-ordered t-shirts will be collected at registration on race day.
