COURSE PROFILE

DUNSOP BRIDGE TRAIL RACE ROUTE

Route Description

Distance: 12k
Elevation: 700ft

This one, is all about the scenery... and my, what scenery we have in store! An isolated picturesque spot, only 20 minutes drive from Clitheroe - step back in time and explore the unspoilt landscapes of Dunsop Bridge.

Beginning from the village's namesake, the race sets off from Dunsop Bridge, turning down past Thorneyholme Hall, you'll run alongside the River Hodder along the farmland down to Burholme Bridge. Crossing over the bridge, a run along the road brings you to the climb up past Inch Perfect Trials, who have kindly given us the use of their private road and land.

Entering the trails, the site of Totridge fell looms over the trees in the foreground, where you'll arrive at Whitemore Woods. Now begins our favourite section of the race, the tranquil descent through the pine trees, with the epic scenery visible in the distance past the tree tops. Leaving the woods, you'll follow the bridleway down past New Launds Farm to the Whitewell stepping stones*. Crossing the river, a dash back along the road brings you back to Burholme Bridge. Back along the River Hodder, you'll be embraced by the fells over Dunsop Bridge, where you'll race back to the finish at Thorneyholme Farm.

*Please note: Should the river rise above the Whitewell stepping stones due to adverse weather, runners will be redirected down the road after Tunstall Ing back down to Burholme Bridge for their own safety

PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP OFF THE PRIVATE LANE PAST HODDER BANK FARM UNTIL RACE DAY - Inch Perfect Trials have given us special permission to use their land for race day

Event FAQ Questions

Everything you need to know before entering Dunsop Bridge Trail Race
  • When is the race?

Dunsop Bridge Trail Race is at 1:00pm 15/2/20

  • Where does the race start?

The race starts at Dunsop Bridge and finishes in the field behind Thorneyholme Farm

  • Is there parking?

Dunsop Bridge has a car park, however, this will be quickly filled. Once filled runners will be directed to park along the main road through Dunsop Bridge.

  • How much is it to enter?

It is £18 plus £1.80 booking fee to enter. This includes the cost to use private lands, post race goodies and insurance. Pennine Trails vests & T-Shirts available to purchase on the day, or Dunsop Bridge t-shirts and vest available to pre-order.

  • I can no longer race, can I get a refund or defer entry?

Injuries happen, we completely understand, it's also frustating when Race Organisers refuse to refund or defer entries. We promise to refund or transfer entry up to 2 months before the event, after this period (due to t-shirts and medals being ordered), you may transfer your entry only up to one week prior to the event.  If you'd like to swap your entry with another runner, please contact us on info@penninetrails.com and we'd be happy to make the change.

  • What shoes should I wear?

Definitely your grippiest trail or fell shoes for this one. As it's February, some sections of the course are slippy and muddy. Have a look at the inov-8 website for fell and trail shoes, and if you're unsure which ones to go for, get in touch and we'd be happy to advise.

  • Do I need to carry kit?

As the race is in February, runners will be required to bring waterproof jackets, trousers, gloves and hats.

  • Will there be a bag drop?

Runners can leave their belongings at the Race HQ (Village Hall) at their own risk and the organiser, officials, Dunsop Bridge Village Hall and Pennine Trails Events Ltd cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage of these items.
